a-Ha brings nexo to the centre of Oslo

90,000 of Norway’s pop faithful turned out for Scandinavia’s largest outdoor concert, a free one-day event sponsored by the country’s largest newspaper.  The VG-Lista Topp 20 is staged in the heart of Oslo, with leading Norwegian PA company Frontlite AS providing the sound systems for this huge show.

Norway’s most successful pop names are on stage – after winning his landslide at the Eurovision show in Moscow, Alexander Rybak performs before Norway’s most popular live band BigBang, and ahead of probably Norway’s most famous band, a-Ha.  System design engineer Stuart Kerrison has configured the NEXO GEO T line-array system to suit the city-centre location of the event, minimising the spill of concert sound into nearby office blocks on a Friday afternoon.

In the famous Radhusplassen, an open square adjacent to the harbour, Frontlite engineers have flown 17x GEO T cabinets  left and right of the stage. 
Two towers carry the side hangs, each with 16x GEO T boxes. 9 of NEXO’s CD18 subs sit below both side sof the stage, supplemented by 6 more at the sidefill positions and another 5 subs under the relay screen.


120 metres from the stage, front-of-house sound engineer Dag Stephen Solberg is mixing shows on a Soundcraft Vi6 digital console.  Behind him, a large relay screen with another 16-box hang of GEO T takes care of the rear section of the crowd. 
Coverage is impressively clear, full-range and consistent across this large area, and drops sharply once outside the crowd barriers.


“This is our fifth year on this show, and we’ve used GEO T for the last four,” recalls Kerrison.  “The system is better than ever, using the latest NXStream software load from NEXO, and the cabinets throw longer while still outputting at a decent level.  In terms of designing a highly-directive system that ‘contains’ an audience, I have a picture of what I want to hear, and GEO T gets me there very easily.  I don’t have to fight with the system,” says Kerrison, who is supported by Dag Stephen Solberg at FOH, an engineer who has used NEXO loudspeakers since the early days of the Alpha system.

Frontlite’s chosen method of amplification for the system includes 40x CAMCO Vortex 6 amps for the main PA and sidefill, and 18x V200 models for the subs.
