Outline Press Meeting
OUTLINE PRESS MEETING – Frankfurt - Written by Peter Barnard – Outline UK
It was just 12 Months ago that Outline laid down the gauntlet for the future of audio design in the professional field. At Frankfurt 2005 we announced COMPASS and stated that by September at PLASA in London we would have a working prototype of the aforementioned product. September arrived and true to our word we unveiled the worlds’ first polar adjustable sound system which, utilizes robotics to change the dispersion in the horizontal and vertical planes, has laser telemetry for targeting audience area which leaves the engineer in no doubt of cold spots. The COMPASS uses 2 x 1" compression drivers together with 4 x 5" mid woofers and 1 x 10" low bass all self powered.
This design ultimately won the PLASA award for innovation, with all the judges agreeing that it was a product long awaited. Since last September the engineers at Outline have been working on an install version of COMPASS. Of course once installed the need for adjustment is not required, so today I can announce the mini COMPASS which has manually adjusted horizontal waveguides: these waveguides are set with information derived from VIP software and can be adjusted asymmetrically from 60 degrees to 150 degrees with mechanical steps of 15 degrees per side in relation to the axis. The system when flown in vertical line arrays has possible adjustments of 0.5 Degrees. This like all DSP self powered systems from Outline has a 'wireless kit' as an option, but more about this later.
There is a new range of high mid and sub woofers also available, firstly the DVS Series - 4 models are available now with 2 new sub basses arriving soon a DVS 115 SW and DVS 118 SW. The DVS range has been designed to accomplish the ever discerning market place as far as audio quality is concerned. The range consists presently of DVS 8, 1 x 8" and 1 x 1" multi facetted cabinet, that can be used either as a small stage monitor of FOH speaker, the DVS 12 uses a 12" and 3" compression driver as does the DVS 15 but of course this uses a 15 mid bass. The DVS range will soon incorporate a 10 with 3" compression driver, DVS 12 and 15 cabinets can be run either passively or bi-amped and the Outline Genius 24 controller is the perfect partner to achieve this. All the DVS range inclusive of sub-basses use all neodymium components.
Another sub bass is to join the above, SUBTECH 218 has been designed to supersede the Topsub and Victor live series, Topsub was the sub to beat, as far as size and performance are concerned. SUBTECH takes the quality and power further, with a lower frequency range of 26 Hz and weighing in at just 80kgs with amazing control and precision and power to produce the most musical of bass notes has continuous SPL of 137 dB at 1 metre. SUBTECH incorporates Outlines’ patented fast hanger flying system. SUBTECH 218 is also available as a self powered version within the next few weeks.
A new system controller is also available. The Genius M 412 is the only loudspeaker management system that offers 4 inputs and 12 outputs, thus giving the installer or engineers enough ins and outs for any occasion.
I mentioned earlier, WiFi – what’s that all about I hear you say? We are the only loudspeaker manufacturer to have the first internet controllable loudspeakers, yes all self powered DSP enabled loudspeakers from Outline will have an option of a wireless module, thus allowing the engineer to adjust gain, Xover, EQ and filters via a wireless enabled PC, the possibilities of this Outline technology are endless. This technology is called EQUIP (equalisation using internet protocol) and again it is an Outline first.
2005 REVIEW
Well that's enough about products; let us recall what a fantastic year 2005 was and what looks to be a great 2006. Last year we saw LIVE 8, Outline was a major contributor to this World event, the Outline Butterfly system was used as side fills as were HARD 212 SP monitors at Circus Maximus in Rome.
In London Outline catered for backstage sound in the Hard rock Cafe which was the artist and VIP retreat when they were not performing. Then 2006 saw the Winter Olympics from Turin again Outlines’ Butterfly was used for Stadium sound together with Panasonic the main sponsor and other well known brands. Some 40 CDH 483's were used in the main body of stadium, together with the now proven Butterfly side fills and HARD monitors. Also the main concert arena in Turin saw artists such as Whitney Houston, Ricky Martin, Anastasia, and Jamiroquai all being relayed to Piazza San Carlo with Butterfly. Again 40 high packs CDH 483 together with 18 Victor live sub woofers amplified by Outline TP 6.5 amplifiers and controlled by Genius 26 controllers.
During 2005 there were the many installations which took place, Outline can now say that we have some 4000 venues and users Worldwide, the latest installs include venues in China, Korea, Russia, Siberia, France, London and Saudi Arabia. These countries mentioned were all Butterfly purchasers which add to the ever growing believers and users in Outline.
