Electro-Voice at Ozzfest 2006
Zakk Wylde, Nick Catanese, Blasko, and Hatebreed Punish EV Equipment on Summer’s Biggest Tour
The 26 city tour featured an impressive roster of today’s finest metal acts, including Ozzy Osbourne, Black Label Society, Hatebreed, System of a Down, Disturbed, Avenged Sevenfold, Lacuna Coil, Dragonforce, Atreyu, Unearth, Bleeding Through, Norma Jean, Walls of Jericho, The Red Chord, A Life Once Lost, Strapping Young Lad, All that Remains, Full Blown Chaos, Between the Buried and Me, and Bad Acid Trip.
Given the critical demands of a no-holds-barred tour like Ozzfest, EV endorsers Zakk Wylde, Nick Catanese (Black Label Society), Blasko (bass w/ Ozzy), and Hatebreed relied on Electro-Voice® (EV®) wired and wireless microphones, and the inimitable Zakk Wylde signature guitar loudspeaker, the EVM-12L Black Label. James Edlund, EV public relations/artist relations manager, remarked: "Although we have a long history of involvement with major recording artists, this year represented a huge step for us with endorser involvement on summer tours of this magnitude. At the top of this list is guitar legend Zakk Wylde with Black Label Society and Ozzy, fellow Black Label guitarist Nick Catanese, Blasko (Ozzy's bassist) and Hatebreed front man Jamey Jasta. Without a doubt, these are the exemplars of today's metal. So why do they use EV? Because EV gear withstands the rigors of the road – and it sounds great! We appreciate their loyalty to our products by hoisting the EV flag!”
EV representatives were lucky enough to spend time with these endorsers and talk about the tour, how the equipment has been working, and what the future holds.
EV: “Zakk, although you now have your own custom guitar loudspeaker built by EV – the EVM-12L Black Label -- tell me how you first learned about EVM-12L loudspeaker?”
Zakk: “I was in Europe and my Celestions got blown out and I needed replacements. Rather than go back to the Celestions, we swapped them with the EVM-12L’s and wow! I went to soundcheck and it sounded huge! The chunk, chunk, chunk was massive -- I was like 'What the h*** is that?'. And that was it. I was hooked on EV."
EV: “Zakk, given the crazy number of shows you play each year, and then add those years up, over this time have you ever blown or had trouble with an EVM-12L loudspeaker?”
Zakk: “I've never blown out an EV speaker. Seriously, I've never had any problems. So kids, you heard it here, buy EV! Bottom line, the EVM-12L’s make the Marshalls sound better... You've got your EL85s, your Marshall heads, plexis, or whatever, it's a great combination. Gibson Les Paul and Marshall, Marshall and EV... the perfect combination.”
EV: “Do you have any words for the folks who build your loudspeakers and the rest of EV’s dedicated employees?”
“To the EV family, the EV chapter of Black Label out there – stay strong, keep whooping a*# and my advice to you, now that you’re part of the Black Label family, for the love of God guys, keep working hard and get it done. Love you...”
